"And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily, and follow me. For whosoever will save his life shall lose it; but whosoeer will lose his life for my sake , the same shall save it." Luke 9: 23,24
If there is a phrase or a clause that sum up the meaning of true discipleship, it is "follow me." When Christ gave this invitation out to those who would eventually become his disciples and apostles, it implied more than just going through the motion of physically following: this was a call to a higher, nobler, greater and more powerful life_ a purpose, a vocation, a commitment. With a decision to follow, the disciples had to turn their backs on everything that they held dear until that time _ nets, boats, career, income, even family and friends. Therefore, as Paul said, "I count not my life dear unto myself" true discipleship requires a total surrender of one's life and a pursuit of God's holy purpose and plan.
When we decide to follow Christ, we'll find fulfillment, power, and total usefulness in the work of God. Then ans only then can we know the full blessings of being disciples of the living and one true God.
Let us e reminded that when we lose our very own lives for the sake of Christ and the gospel, He will recompense us with great blessings, such as we'll neven know outside of true discipleship _ we shall find true life.
Let us count the cost and be willing to pay the price and decide to "follow him", and then encourage others to follow us. Have a great Sunday.
